Apple Workgroup Server 80: Description
Copyright 1993, Apple Computer, Inc.
Article Created: 22 March 1993 (Extracted from the Tech Info Library, Apple
Computer, Inc's technical information database on AppleLink.)
TOPIC -----------------------------------------------------------
This article describes the Apple Workgroup Server 80.
DISCUSSION ------------------------------------------------------
The Apple Workgroup Server 80 provides the performance, reliability,
scalability, and manageability you need to meet the requirements of
medium-sized workgroups for file and print, workgroup database, or
communications services. Representing the midrange of Apple's server
family, this system is based on the fast 33-megahertz Motorola 68040
microprocessor. With on-board Ethernet and built-in AppleTalk networking
capability, the Apple Workgroup Server 80 is ideal for up to 30 active
users (that is, users simultaneously reading from and writing to the
server). It can act as a communications server by running applications
such as Apple's SNA•ps, MacX25, or MacX.400 gateway products, or the Apple
Internet Router.
The Apple Workgroup Server 80 is expandable. You can add up to 136MB of
RAM, install up to three NuBus cards, and store up to three additional
high-capacity internal storage devices, such as an internal DDS-DC 4mm tape
drive for backups.
Apple servers continue the "plug and play" tradition established by the
Macintosh. System 7 and high-performance AppleShare 4.0 file and print
server software is preloaded, so installation takes just minutes. Because
it's a snap to maintain, manage, reconfigure, and expand, over the long run
the Apple Workgroup Server 80 offers the lowest cost of ownership in its
class.
To provide a midrange file and print server solution for your business, to
supply classroom-to-campus integration, or to meet other communications
requirements, build your solutions around the Apple Workgroup Server 80.
